📅 Attendance Expectations

✅ Regular Attendance

Students must attend all classes and school activities. This reflects:

  • Commitment to learning

  • Respect for the learning community

🎓 Academic Impact of Absences

Frequent absences hinder a student’s ability to:

  • Master sequential content

  • Engage in collaborative learning

  • Develop critical thinking through discussions

  • Complete formative assessments

  • Sustain academic momentum

⏰ Notification Deadline

Parents/guardians must notify the school by 9:00 AM on the day of absence via:

📄 Documentation Requirements

  • Medical absences (over 3 days): Require doctor’s note

  • Pre-planned absences: Submit written request 1 week in advance

  • Emergency absences: Document within 48 hours of return

📋 Absence Categories

Excused Absences

  • Illness or medical appointments

  • Family emergencies or bereavement

  • Legal obligations

  • Pre-approved educational travel

  • School-sponsored activities

Unexcused Absences

  • Unapproved family vacations

  • Oversleeping / transport issues

  • Non-emergency personal appointments

  • Any absence lacking proper documentation or approval

5 Absences in a Term

  • Formal notification to parents

  • Mandatory conference (student, parents, faculty)

  • Additional support (e.g., tutoring) may be recommended

10+ Absences in a Term

  • Administrative review of enrolment status

  • Academic assessment to evaluate learning progress

  • Possible outcomes:

    • Continued enrolment with intensive support

    • Recommendation for alternative placement

    • Withdrawal from the school

Make-up Work Policy

  • Students have days absent + 1 day to complete missed work

  • Teachers may adjust deadlines for:

    • Long-term projects

    • Major assessments

  • Some work ( presentations, group projects) may not be fully recoverable

Lateness Policy

  • Late = Arrival after class begins

  • 3 lates = 1 absence

  • Repeated lateness may lead to disciplinary action

💬 Special Circumstances

Extended Illness / Chronic Conditions

  • Individualized attendance plans developed with administration

Appeal Process

Families may appeal attendance decisions:

  1. Submit written appeal to Head Teacher within 10 school days

  2. Review by appeal by Deputy head, tutor and Director.

  3. Final decision within 15 school days

📈 Monitoring & Communication

  • Daily attendance updates available via

  • Teachers/counsellors administration monitor trends

  • Attendance is documented in:

    • Progress Reports
